Haunted City

I'm back from vacation and we had a great time. James and I went to Disney World and I can't wait to show you all the pictures. First, I thought I'd share our little stop in New Orleans, Louisiana on the way home.
I found this great little place to stay on Airbnb. It was this little one bedroom apartment in a finished basement of someone's lovely home. We settled in for a bit, listened to some jazz on the radio and walked a couple of blocks to this happenin' restaurant and bar called the Ye Olde College Inn. The fried green tomatoes were delicious!
This abandoned house was directly across the street and I loved the colors and especially the giant moss covered tree.
After breakfast, I navigated us to 1239 First St to see this amazing house. It was built in 1857 and was once owned by one of my favorite authors, Anne Rice. This house inspired her to write some of her novels like the Mayfair Witches series. I picked it up at Half Priced Books today and this house is on the cover.
I thought this was a great time to finally wear my vintage Adam & Eve dress I bought on eBay a few months ago. I'm still swooning over this print.
I really loved this city. It's a shame we couldn't be there longer. We're definitely going to have to plan another trip soon. I still have to visit those romantic cemeteries and beautiful swamps.

Cinemanic Monday: The seaweed is always greener in somebody else's lake

art by Danny Kent
I haven't seen this movie in ages. How sad. It was my very favorite when I was a kid. Actually, this was the very first movie my family ever owned. This is the movie of all movies that I'm most nostalgic about. I loved Ariel. I took lessons from her like a true prodigy. I threw tantrums like her, attempted to cry adorably and even picked up her hoarding habit. I used to cross my ankles and pretend to be a little mermaid in the bath tub or a pool while trying to not drown. And I know I definitely wasn't alone by imitating her fabulous hair flip. Don't lie, you did it too! LOL! I'm still known to do that shit in a pool after a few drinks.
I know so many girls who hold this movie so dear to their heart. Ariel was so gorgeous. Prince Eric was such a hunk. The first dream I remember having was me in a boat with Eric and Heart was on a stage playing "These Dreams" for us. Hahaha! I was only 5 years old. I knew a lot of dudes who had major cartoon crushes on Ariel. She was so beautifully drawn. And might I add that she had some very mature looks on that 16 year old face. It was my first lesson on what desire was.
But we all know how mature this movie could be right? For those of you who didn't notice or haven't heard of it, this movie is filled with dicks. Hahah! Ok, well two. There's an erect penis smack dab in the center of the castle on the original cover and the next one is a total shocker. The priest has the littlest of hard on during the wedding scene. Don't believe me? Google that shiiii.
I cannot wait for this movie to come out on Blu ray this year! Yet again, I've been waiting for that stinkin' Disney Vault to let this one out to play. A few years ago, I was so excited when I found out a film I was working on had a Little Mermaid reference. There was a guy and a girl getting to know each other and he won a bet so she had to sing a song for him. I was so happy when I found out she was singing "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?..." I immediately called the director and praised him on the song choice. The actress did a great job too! It was so cute.
Let's have a little chat about Ursula and all her tranny fierceness.
I didn't want to admit it then but I really looked up to her. She scared the shit out of me. And I liked it. Ursula didn't give a shit. She had this bad ass house filled with souls, two eels bitches and I loved her choice of lipstick.
I can't believe I didn't notice it before but she was inspired by Divine.
It all makes sense now...

Well as it turns out this is another special edition of Cinemanic Monday...
I can't believe this is actually happening! We're leaving in just a few hours! I'm only working half a day today and then we hit the road this afternoon. A nice long drive with my dear love James. It's like a dream come true. I can't wait to share this with him and of course with you too. It was actually his idea. He basically grew up at Disneyland and knows it's layout by heart. He can already draw a map of Disney World and he hasn't even been there yet! LOL I love him so much. He's going to be the perfect companion and guide. We won't even have to look at a map.
When I turned 3 years old, my parents bought a Mickey doll just like this one and I loved him oh so much. He was the "blankie" of my childhood. I still have him packed in my garage with a picture that was taken the day I got him tucked inside a tear in his chest. Last year, for my birthday,  my mom and sister miraculously found the same doll in a vintage shop and gave him to me. I seriously cried you guys. It was the exact doll, all brand new like the first day I got him. I was so happy to have him again. Now I can pass it along to my own child. I'm getting so emotional! This was not my intention. I'm just so happy!!!

Big City Train

Hello hello! I'm kind of on a forced break from the blog lately. I'm currently working at another city office downtown for the next two weeks and they have me working all day long. No time for Nostalgia. :( That's ok though. I like the change of pace and its really nice to be off my ass and moving around. I'm learning the ins and outs of this place so this experience will help if I want to work there permanently.
The best part is I get to take the train down! I've only used it for SXSW and the occasional dinner downtown but this is my first time using it for work. I feel like I'm one of the fancy city folk! Lol! It's only my third day riding so don't hold me to this excitement. I have to wake up much earlier and I'm getting home an hour later than normal. I wish I was all snug in my bed with little Ollie right about now. I feel like the new awkward kid on the school bus. People do not like chit chat on the bus. Lol! I'm gonna stop trying and just put my makeup on and listen to some music. So far so good. :)
I can't wait to catch up on all your fashionable spring posts! I'm going to do an outfit post real soon. It's been far too long.

xoxo

Cinemanic Monday: "Sinead O'Rebellion. Shock me shock me shock me with that deviant behavior"

Is this movie not the epitome of the 90's? It's glorious. God, I so badly wanted to work in a place this cool. Records galore, roof top access and all those beautiful fucking people.
I got a thing for older guy and Joe was so sexy.
Deb was so fucking cool and looked HOT with a shaved head. She was like the Judd Nelson of the pack.
He's still gonna rape you at 3 o'clock. Be there.
OMG how cute was Ethan Embry as Mark?
So much fabulous dancing in this movie. It makes me happy! :D
Don't crash the party Joe!
Not on Rex Manning day!
Corey Corey Corey. Is there anything more perfect than Liv Tyler in this movie? Soooo gorgeous!! How did anyone function with this beautiful creature walking around? She's like a fucking unicorn. Like if the one from Legend could magically take off it's red lace bra from under it's sweater and have big ol' sappy eyes as if to say, "Me? but why?"
Ok, so I once watched the deleted scenes from this movie. Most of them were totally understandable because they were borderline mellow dramatic. Like the part where Corey FLIPS OUT and starts stabbing cardboard Rex. Deb, desperate for attention, flys to her side and pleads with Joe, "I can take care of her Joe! Please let me!" What the hell was that!? It's hilarious. There was one scene they really should have left in the final cut. Remember when Corey strips down to her adorably mismatched panty set for Sexy Rexy? Well... he didn't just unzip his pants and say "Rock and Roll", he grabs the salad dressing off the table, shakes it and says "I hope you like bleu cheese". Yea, the dude like his blowies Hidden Valley-style. Isn't is so much more understandable why she ran off the way she did?! Ok, it may have been ranch dressing but bleu cheese is so much worse.

I'm guilty of overusing this quote constantly.

This part was SO HOT!!! I wanted them to make out.
I love whoever decided to play that The The song "This is the Day" at the end of the movie. I love love love that band. This soundtrack is one of my all time favorites.
Happy Rex Manning Day duckies!
