This movie was my childhood. I loved it and I still do. Simply adorable. I had a little Otis of my own for about a minute. An ex boyfriend of mine let me (try) to keep him when I lived with my mom but she made me give him back after a few weeks. My brother and sister and I watched this constantly.
A few Easter's ago, I bought a copy for my nephew Ethan. I wasn't sure if he had ever seen it but thought he should have a copy anyway. Kids rarely ever appreciate a thoughtful gift you give them. Not Ethan. He watched the entire movie from beginning to end in one sitting. About halfway through, he looked at me and asked, "You got me this right?" Yes. And with the biggest smile on his face, he said "I like it". It was the cutest thing ever!
The part with the fox was my favorite scene. So cute!
Watching this movie now, it tears me up seeing how much obvious animal abuse there was in the production (Milo going down a waterfall in a box, Otis fighting a bear). This is actually a remake of a film created in Japan. I read awful allegations about the production on a different website I can't bear to repeat. Let's just say ignorance is bliss and I wish I never read it.
All I know is that I loved this film when I was a kid and it definitely had a part in making me the animal lover I am today.
