This has been a long time coming. James got me probably the best birthday gift ever! Beginner sewing classes at the Stitch Lab in Austin. My first class is this Friday!!! I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally learn how to use a sewing machine considering I've been sewing since I was 4 years old. My mom taught me how to sew by hand and I'd make my own barbie clothes. She even gave me a brand new Singer sewing machine for my birthday this year! My friend Megan gave me an old Bernina years ago that I still have. I was just planning on getting that one serviced before the classes but I'm gonna use the one mom gave me instead. I figured the Bernina will be a breeze to learn once I get the newer version down.
My friend Mary told me how awesome this place was and they're classes fill up very quickly so I'm over the moon about finally getting in on the action. They offer all kinds of classes there. I doubt this will be my only one. The Beginner I Sewing Series is three 3.5 hour classes and they limit each class to 5 students. All I have to bring to the first class is my machine, a bobbin and a spool of thread. I'll be learning all the functions and threading of the machine and we're going to practice stitching, maintaining a seam allowance and we're going to make drawstring bags. They're going to provide the fabric in shop. They sell the cutest fabric there! I grabbed some images from their Flikr page to share with you.

We're gonna make pillows too! I really like that zig zag pattern.
I can't wait to tell you all about my classes there. Stay tuned. :)
