California dreaming...

I am one lucky girl. I have the most amazing boyfriend. Our 6 year anniversary is next month! He has shown me the most amazing things and I plan to share as many as possible on my blog. I'd like to start with an amazing road trip we took in 2010. We drove from TX to NM, AZ, CA and NV. It was the best two weeks of my life. Just me and my honey, on the open road, listening to Fashion Nugget from Cake over and over. That is the best road trip album in my opinion. :)
According to my Facebook album, this was Day 4 of our road trip. The Hearst Castle. We got into San Luis Obispo and were staying with his sister Jenny. I first read about it years ago when I was reading about Patty Hearst, one of John Waters' Dreamlanders and most infamous for being a kidnap victim turned convicted bank robber. When I found out how close the Hearst Castle was to San Luis Obispo I added that to our day planner.
Me and Jenny on the San Simeon Pier.
This was the party spot for the elite back in the 20's and 30's. Invitations were highly coveted. The A-list guest list goes on and on. Charlie Chaplin, Charles Lindbergh, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Franklin Roosevelt, Orson Welles and Winston Churchill. Being a longtime fan, I was very excited to hear about Charlie Chaplin as being a regular. There was a short film showing the castle in it's heyday and there was Charlie, prancing around the tennis court, being adorable.

The Neptune Pool was absolutely stunning

We toured one of the guest houses and they had vintage clothing laid out. So pretty!

This one was my favorite. So sweet. :)

The tour guide mentioned that William Rudolph Hearst would subtly let a guest know they outlived their welcome by seating them farther and farther away from him at the dinner table.
