Cinemanic Monday: "Pussy willows, Dottie"

You know how I love the brown word. That's probably because of Chip Sutphin. Serial Mom is my #1 favorite from the John Waters collection. This movie is so delightfully screwed up, I just can't get enough of it. My cousin Meghan and I watched this movie over and over when we were about 14 years old and we would take turns saying our favorite lines. Rewind and repeat. If you haven't seen it please do. Go put it in your Netflix queue! I'll wait here...

Set in Suburbia Baltimore (all of Waters' movies are set here), we see the normal Sutphin family starting their day like any other. The kids, Misty and Chip, are getting ready for school, dentist daddy is getting ready for work and they all have breakfast that Beverly has so nicely prepared.

Then the shit hits the fan. The cops come by asking questions about an anonymous note sent to a harassed neighbor lady (who totally deserved it) but honey badger Beverly don't give a shit and gets right back to her dirty plans once the house is empty.
I love that part. Then, of course, comes all the murdering. The reasoning behind them all is so ridiculous and absurd. That's what makes this movie so great. That and the cast. Kathleen Turner, Ricki Lake (Go Ricki! Go Ricki!), the adorable Matthew Lillard, Mink Stole, Tracy Lords, Patty Hearst, L7 and Suzanne Somers.
