Cinemanic Monday: The Golden Ticket

Hello friends! This is a special edition of Cinemanic Monday. My cousin Meghan and I went to the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Quote- and Sing-Along at the Alamo Drafthouse with special guests Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen. Veruca Salt and Mike Teevee in person!!!
I've been looking forward to this for weeks and it did not disappoint. We had so much fun! They both came out before the show and talked a little about their experiences with the film and seeing it 40 years later. It was surreal being in the same room as them. Especially Julie. I loved her character so much when I was a kid. Even though Veruca was a terror, the character was so much fun and she did a pretty damn good job for a 13 year old girl. Fun fact! Her 13th birthday actually fell on the day they filmed her infamous Bad Egg scene.
Everyone in the audience got goody bags with props and candy to go along with different scenes. We got dryer sheets to wave around and "make the place smell poor" when Charlie's mom is washing clothes. Lol! It did smell pretty nice though. We also got candy dots for the Candy Man song, gum for Violet's demise, bubbles for the Fizzy Lifting Drinks, chocolate to inhale with Charlie, streamers for Veruca's scrreeeeeeeaaaaaammmmm and party poppers and confetti to celebrate the glass elevator shattering the ceiling. Meghan and I were very dedicated to quoting along throughout the entire movie. This dude next to us was like "wooooooow". Haha! They also had a giant gummy bear eating contest with some audience members. Julie was rooting this girl on, "Shove it in there! Shove it in!" LOL omg...
After the show, Julie and Paris came back out to do a Q&A with the audience. Julie talked about how well her and Denise Nickerson (Violet) got along off camera. They're still the best of friends. "Sadly, she couldn't be here tonight because she's getting surgery" :( Aww get better soon, Denise. They did have a little rivalry over the boy who played Charlie. She came out with a book of letters she sent to her mother back in England while she was on set in Munich for the film. Peter (Charlie) asked her out and she had to wait two weeks for an answer from her mother if it was alright but he already moved onto Violet by that time. LOL! Poor girl. I wanted to ask Paris what he thought of the director and Gene Wilder saying in numerous interviews how difficult he was to work with but he beat me to it. He said he went to a similar kind of event last year with Gene Wilder and when he introduced himself as Mike Teevee, Gene leaned back and let out  a long sigh and said "oh you were such a brat!" Haha! Paris said, well it's been 40 years, I was hoping we could look past that now and Gene signed his poster "to my favorite brat". So cute! They were both super nice and really funny. After the show, everyone was leaving the theater and Julie and Paris were still on the stage. Meghan and I built up the courage and walked up to them, introduced ourselves and got a picture!!! I told Julie, I can't believe I'm talking to you right now. Haha! Not very impressive but still true. I can't believe all that happened! I asked a woman in the audience to take our picture with my phone (why didn't I bring the good camera?!) and I noticed how blurry it was after we already left. :(
My blurry pic with Julie, Paris and Meghan.
Oh yea, and everyone got these amazing posters signed by Julie and Paris. I'm getting that shit framed. :D

  1. Wow, it sounds like you had an awesome time! I love that film. And goody bags... please! Lucky!

  2. Nice! Love your shirt that you made for it.

I love hearing what you think. Thanks for taking the time.
